Today, NHAI announced that from December 1, 2017 it will be mandatory for all new 4-wheelers to have FASTag. FASTag is a device for electronic toll collection on the highways.
Automobile manufacturers or authorized dealers have to fix it on the front windscreens of the four wheeler.
Currently, FASTag is operational at about 370 toll plazas on National Highways. It is inter-operable and it can be used across all toll plazas in India under the National Electronic Toll Collection programme.
What is FASTag?-
A FASTag is a device that uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for making toll payment directly from the prepaid balance or savings account linked.
It is fixed on the windscreen of the four wheeler. With FASTag, you don’t need to stop your vehicle at the toll plaza and pay online.
FASTag is a valid for 5 years. After you purchase, you need to recharge it as per your requirement.
The major advantage of having FASTag is, you don’t need to carry cash for toll pay. It is time saving and you can continue almost non-stop your vehicle.
When the vehicle with FASTag crosses the toll booth, the toll amount is deducted automatically. The owner receives SMS alert for the payment, low balance and other notifications.
How to Recharge FASTag:
FASTags can be recharged through Credit Card, Debit Card, NEFT, RTGS or Net Banking. The minimum amount for recharge is Rs 100 while the maximum amount is Rs 1 lakh.
Cashback offer: Users can avail a cashback of 10 per cent on the payments and the amount for a particular month will be credited back to the FASTag account within a week of the subsequent month.
One device can be used for one vehicle only and it is non-transferable.
How and Where to buy FASTags-
To create FASTag account, you can visit any Point of Sale location at the toll plazas or issuer agency. It is also available in banks which the authorities have signed up with.
HDFC bank, ICICI bank, Syndicate bank, Axis bank, IDFC bank, SBI and many other banks have partnered with NHAI for FASTag. Paytm also offers FASTag to its buyers.
A user can also ask the automobile companies to install it on the vehicles.
Documents Required for FASTag:
A customer needs to submit a copy of the following documents as KYC along with the application for FASTag:
– Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle
– Passport size photograph of the vehicle owner
– any of these—Driving license, PAN Card, Passport, Voter ID Card or Aadhaar Card.
A customer should carry original copies of the documents along with the Photocopies.
