Navratri festival 2017 is nearby. Navratri means the Nine Nights. So Navratri is the festival which is celebrated for 9 days. This year Navratri falls in the month of September. This Navratri is also called as Shardiya Navratri.

Navratri 2017 will begin on 21 September 2017 and end on 29 September 2017. Dussehra will be celebrated on 30th September 2017, Saturday.

Every year Navratri is celebrated in lunar month Ashwin. All 9 days of Navratri are dedicated to 9 forms of Goddess Amba. The celebration ends on 10th day with Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami.

It is the time to destroy all negative qualities like inertia, pride, obsession, etc. many people perform fast during the days of Navratri.

Navratri Celebration in Gujarat:

During Navratri, the sounds of Dandiya and Dhol can be heard all over Gujarat. Devotees observe fast during these nine days of Navratri and worship of the goddess Durga. In the evening, a garbi, an earthen pot with diyas symbolizing the source of life, is used for the evening aarti after which traditional dances, garba and dandiya are performed by people.

People of Gujarat dress up in their traditional clothes and spend the evening dancing to the beats of popular traditional Gujarati songs. People also observe Jagran, singing bhajans and praising the Goddess all night long.
