After lots of speculations, BCCI announced coaches for Indian cricket team. Indian cricket team got three coaches namely Ravi Shastri as head coach, Rahul Dravid as batting consultant for overseas test matches and Zaheer Khan as bowling coach.
Sanjay Bangar will continue as the batting coach of Indian team. These appointments will end after 2019 ICC World Cup.
Ravi Shastri was the leading the six-man list which included Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody and others. Earlier Ravi Shastri has served as the team director. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had a conference call with team captain Virat Kohli last night. CAC comprises of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman.
Meanwhile Indian team got Zaheer Khan as bowling coach. Indian captain Virat Kohli’s choice was Ravi Shastri while Sachin Tendulkar also approved him.
In the interview to the CAC, Ravi Shastri had said his aim was to bring back team on track.
BCCI’s acting secterary Amitabh Choudhary said in a media statement, “The BCCI announces the appointment of Mr. Ravi Shastri as the Head Coach, Mr. Zaheer Khan as the Bowling Consultant and Mr. Rahul Dravid who will be the Overseas Batting Consultant (Test cricket) for the Indian Cricket Team,”.
Ravi Shastri was a Cricket manager during 2007 Bangladesh tour and then team director from August 2014 to June 2016. He applied for the post on 3rd July 2017. As per Sources, Shastri had applied for the post after being convinced to do so by Tendulkar.
After India loss against Pakistan in Champions trophy 2017 final, Coach Anil Kumble and Captain Kohli’s drama took an ugly turn. Even Kumble sent his resignation while Indian team was heading for West Indies tour.
Kumble tweeted his resignation, stating that the relationship between him and skipper Virat Kohli was ‘untenable’.
When Shastri was team director, team India reached semi-finals of 2015 ICC World Cup, India recorded a 3-0 win over Australia in the T20 series Down Under and against South Africa at home, India managed to win the Test series 3-0.
