Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a historic tour of Israel. It is PM Modi’s 66th visit abroad in 3 years. On Tuesday 4th July 2017, PM Modi arrived at Israel. He spent most of his first day time with Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli PM Netanyahu broke his protocol and personally received PM Modi at Tel Aviv airport. PM Modi hugged Netanyahu in his beer hug style. Then they both addressed the media where they called for defeating terrorism.
Israel PM Naetanyahu described PM Modi as “mere dost” (My friend) during 30 minutes’ welcome at the airport.
Israel army gave the ceremonial guard of honour to PM Narendra Modi. Then Netanyahu said, “Aapka swagat hai, mere dost”.
Also Netanyahu recalled his meeting with PM Modi in New York in September 2014. He said, “When I met you in New York three years ago, we agreed to break down the remaining walls between India and Israel. We shook each other’s hands and agreed to forge a historic partnership for partners,”
After this grand welcome PM Modi said, “It is my singular honour to be the first ever Indian Prime Minister to undertake this groundbreaking visit to Israel… My visit celebrates the strength of centuries-old links between our societies. Based on the bonds, our partnership has maintained a strong and sustained upswing since the establishment of full diplomatic relations 25 years ago. The people of Israel have built a nation on democratic principles. They have nurtured it with hard work, grit and spirit of innovation. You have marched on, regardless of adversity, and converted challenges into opportunity. India applauds your achievements,”
Israel’s top cabinet ministers were also present at the airport to welcome Indian Prime Minister. Then PM Modi headed to Danziger Flower Farm at Mishmar Hashiva with Netanyahu and Agricultural minister. At there, Israel PM named a flower with Name of Indian Prime Minister “Modi”.
PM Modi also visited Yad Vashem where he attended the memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance and toured the Children’s memorial.
In the evening, Israel PM Netanyahu hosted a private dinner for PM Modi. India is having a deep tie in defence and security with Israel. Today, on Wednesday both the leaders will hold bilateral talks at the historic King David Hotel.
