‘Baba Barfani’ Amarnath is a divine place for Hindu community. Every year Government opens Shri Amarnath Yatra. This year Amarnath Yatra 2017 will start on 29 June 2017.
Inside the Holy Cave of Amarnath, the Shiva Linga is formed due to freezing of water drops that fall from the roof of the cave. It grows up vertically from the cave floor.
Amarnath Yatra 2017 Dates:
29 June to 7 August 2017
Amarnath Yatra 2017 will commence on 29th June 2017 and end on 7th August 2017. From today, Registration for 2017 Amarnath Yatra started. Amarnath shrine is situated at an altitude of 12756 feet and around 141 Km from Srinagar.
This year Home Minister Rajnath Singh likely to visit Amarnath temple in the beginning. Also J&K Governor N N Vohra and Union Home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi will also take blessing at the Lord Amarnath shrine on the first day.
Also Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board issues the Do’s and Don’ts for the pilgrims. There will be more than 27000 security personnel along the route.
Amarnath Yatra 2017 Do’s and Don’ts:
Take sufficient woolen clothes with you. As sometimes the temperature falls below 5-degree Celsius.
Also carry umbrella, raincoat, waterproof bags and shoes as there is unpredictable weather. Also use waterproof bag to keep your clothes safe and dry.
Every member should have a note with full name, address, mobile numbers for emergency time.
Do carry your ID proof or driving license and Yatra permit.
Better to travel in group. Hire horse or porter or pony to carry your luggage.
On your journey home, you must leave the base camps along with all other members of your group.
If any member of your group is missing, then immediately contact the police. Also have a public address system announcement.
Help your group members and also other Yatris.
Strictly follow the instructions to avoid any problem or critical situation.
For any emergency, contact your nearest Yatra Control room or Mountain Rescue teams.
Domel and Chandanwari access control gates’ open from 5:00 am to 11:00 am. So reach the gates on time. Under any situation, no one will be allowed to enter the gate after the closing.
At the Langar, you will get free food facility for everyone.

Prepaid SIM cards from any other state will not work in Jammu Kashmir state. So Yatris need to purchase pre-activated SIM cards at the base camps of Baltal and Nunwan.
Women Yatris need to wear salwar kameez, pant-shirt or track suit. One must not wear Saree.
Women with more than 6-week pregnancy is not allowed for the pilgrimage.
Children below 13 years of age and elders above the 75 years of age are not permitted for Amarnath Yatra.
Walk Only on the pre-defined tracks and never stop at the places with warning notices.
Don’t walk barefoot.
Only wear trekking shoes and avoid slippers as there are steep rises and falls.
Don’t go for any short cuts on the route.
Never commence your journey on an empty stomach. At least have some healthy food to avoid any medical problem.
Don’t pollute the environment.
Don’t bring polythene material with you as it is banned in Jammu and Kashmir state.
Avoid throwing coins, currency, chunnis, Lota or any material towards the Amarnath Shivalinga.
Don’t stay at the Amarnath cave overnight as it is on high altitude and there is always unpredictable weather.
Don’t leave Panjtarni camp towards Holy cave after 3:00 pm as after 6:00 pm, Lord Shiva’s Darshan is not allowed.
