Union Government made it mandatory to link Aadhaar numbers for opening bank accounts and carrying out high valued transactions of Rs 50000 or more. Existing bank account holders also have to link their Aadhaar numbers to bank by 31 December 2017.
If one fails to link Aadhaar with bank account, then his account will be ceased as per the notification. The new Government notification makes mandatory quoting of Aadhaar card and PAN by individuals, companies and partnership firms for all transactions of Rs 50000 or above.
If a person has not been issued Aadhaar card, then he can give proof of Aadhaar enrolment application. And if PAN is not submitted then one certificate copy of ‘officially valid document’ need to be submitted.
When you are opening a new bank account and don’t submit Aadhaar card or PAN, then you need to require to submit the same within 6 months.

How to Link Aadhaar Number to Bank Account Online:
Login to your Internet banking service
Check the link “Update Aadhaar Card Details” or “Aadhaar card seeding”
Click it and get redirected to another page
Then Enter your Aadhaar number and submit it.
It will display the last 2-digits of the registered mobile number
The bank will communicate the status of the linking to Customer’s registered mobile number.
How to Link Aadhaar Card to bank account through SMS:
If you have registered mobile number with the bank, you can update your Aadhaar to your account via SMS as well.
For SBI customers, send SMS to 567676 as: UID(space)Aadhaar Number(space)Account number
If the mobile number is not registered or in case the Aadhaar is already linked to Account, an SMS reply will be sent to you.
If your mobile number is registered with the Bank, you will receive an SMS confirmation of the seeding request.
Still many banks to offer this Aadhaar linking option through SMS. So contact your bank’s customer helpline.
How to link Aadhaar card to Bank Account from an ATM:
SBI and some other banks offer an option for linking Aadhaar from an ATM
Enter your Card and then PIN and select “Service – Registration”
From the menu, select Aadhaar registration
System will also ask the Account type savings or checking and then ask your Aadhaar number.
