The tenth day of the Navaratri festival is known as Dussehra, or Vijaya Dashami. The first nine days are celebrated as Navratri and culminating on the tenth day as Dussehra. This year Dussehra festival will be celebrated on 11th October 2016, Tuesday.
According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Dussehra falls on the 10th day (Dashami) of the month of Ashwin. It’s widely devoted to celebrating the victory of the Lord Rama over demon king Ravana.
Also, this day marks the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura. The goddess fought with evil for ten days and nine nights.
