Yahoo Inc Confirms 50 Crore Accounts Hacked in 2014

Yesterday, 22nd September, 2016, Yahoo! Inc said that a massive attack on its network in 2014 allowed hackers to steal data from half a billion users and may have been “state sponsored” hacking group.

Before one month, a hacker was found to be selling login information related to 200 million Yahoo users accounts on the Dark Web, though Yahoo recognized that the breach was much worse than at first expected.

A current investigation by Yahoo! Inc. has confirmed that a copy of 50 crore user account information was stolen from the company’s network in late 2014 by State Sponsored Hackers.

Yahoo! Inc. is investigating the breach with law enforcement agency and recently believes that users’ names, email addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, passwords, and in some cases, encrypted and unencrypted security questions-answers were stolen from millions of Yahoo users.

But, the company does not believe the stolen information includes some important information like credit card information or any bank details of the affected users.

Few months ago, a large number of data breaches have been reported to outbreak many companies such as LinkedIn, MySpace, Tumblr, and VK.com.

Changed Your Current Password and Use Password Manager:

Yahoo users instantly change their account password and use password manager for your account. The company will also be warning everyone who hasn’t changed their password since 2014.

Yahoo also suggests their user to consider their account using Yahoo Account Key, a simple authentication tool that removes the requirement to use a password.

Yahoo user make sure that you also change your passwords on other online accounts if you use the same password, and enable two-factor authentication for online accounts instantly.
