Ganesh Chaturthi is one most awaited festival in Maharashtra. Ganpati pandals headed by Lalbaugcha Raja will open their doors early Monday, 5th September, 2016 morning for ten days of prayer and celebration.
In Mumbai, Bollywood Stars are also celebrating Ganesh Utsav every year. Emraan Hashmi, Salman Khan, Arjun Rampal Vivek Oberoi and many other stars are celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi 2016. While some actors and actresses visit other stars’ celebration places to take Bappa’s blessings.
Siddhivinayak temple has started a paper pulp Ganesh for the first time. The idol reportedly dissolves faster than ordinary clay. The Siddhivinayak temple commonly arranges a series of musical and cultural events through Ganeshotsav as each day sees thousands of fans arrive to seek darshan.
This year, 2016, approx. 40,000 more houses will host Lord Ganesh in Mumbai. Mumbai city will also host 250 big Lord Ganesha. In 2015, Mumbai saw 1.86 lakh household idols during the 10-day festival and also 11,556 Sarvajanik Ganesh pandals.
BSGSS president Naresh Dahibhavkar said, “The fact is that there are more household idols means citizens have decided to focus more on celebrating a simple festival in 2016.”
He also said that, “In 2016, there is three main highlights are as follows — no argument in caste or religion-related matters, no violation of eco-friendly laws, especially those related to noise and beach pollution and main thing the safety of women across the city.”
There are four immersion days in 2016 that are — September 6, 9, 10 and 15 and idols will be immersed at many beaches such as Girgaum chowpatty, Juhu, Versova, Aksa and Dadar. This year, Mumbai has 26 artificial ponds for mainly household idol immersion.
