USFDA Bans Drugs Import from Wockhardt Ankleshwar Plant


US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has banned import of drugs made at Wockhardt’s Ankleshwar plant. Wockhardt’s Ankleshwar plant gets import alert from US FDA due to non-compliance of manufacturing terms.

USFDA mentioned in notice that Wockhardt’s Ankleshwar plant is manufacturing bulk drugs. Wockhardt import alert has been issued under ‘Import Alert 66-40’, which authorizes the health regulator “detention without physical examination of drugs from firms which have not met drug GMPs”.

Wockhardt’s two other plants Chikalthana and Waluj are already banned from exporting drugs to US. Now the third plant of Wockhardt in Ankleshwar Gujarat is get banned from importing.

USFDA had banned import of drugs manufactured ar Wockhardt’s Chikalthana plant at Aurangabad in Maharashtra in November 2013. In May 2016, USFDA issued import alert on Wockhardt’s Waluj plant which is manufacturing injectables and solid dosages.

Looking at Wockhardt stocks, Wockhardt shares closed ar Rs 1015.60 on BSE on Friday, 5th August 2016.
