Today PM Narendra Modi inaugurated SAUNI (Saurashtra Narmada Avataran for Irrigation) project in Gujarat. Under SAUNI Yojana, nearly 10 dams and reservoirs Rajkot, Jamnagar and Morbi would be filled up with the water of Narmada river.
After Inaugural ceremony, PM Modi will address the public. Almost 700 ST buses and 200 private buses are arranged for people to reach the ceremony. The state irrigation department has kept a budget worth around Rs 5 crore for the inauguration of Phase-I of link-I of SAUNI.
SAUNI Yojana estimated cost is Rs 12000 Crore which will form a Phase-I for PM Modi’s ambitious project.
According to CM Vijay Rupani, “We plan to fill 115 dams of Saurashtra region. The four-phase project is expected to be completed before 2019.”

Ahead of the inauguration, PM Narendra Modi tweeted,
“Looking forward to being in Gujarat today for the launch of SAUNI Yojana. This scheme will truly benefit the people of Gujarat.”
Phase 1 of this project work on Links II, III and IV is expected to be completed by December 2016. The government has set the deadline of the entire project, which is December, 2019.
On Monday, Congress attacked Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Gujarat. Ahead of 2012 elections in Gujarat, Narendra Modi as Gujarat Chief Minister, had launched SAUNI project. PM Modi had declared this project in 2012 while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
