TRAI said it would act fast on requests by operators or the government on the issue of inter-connection.
Trai chairman RS Sharma said, “We will take fast decisions. If there is a letter which has come from the telecom department or the industry or any agency, we will certainly respond to it.”
The sectoral regulator’s comments came after Reliance Jio Infocomm wrote to Trai.
Rajan S Mathews, director general of COAI has said, “We understand Reliance Jio at present has approximately two-three million customers using their network? Hence, we are unable to substantiate Reliance Jio’s claim for additional capacity.”
Reliance Jio is also a member of COAI. However, the forum is largely driven by officials Vodafone India, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular. They control over 60% of the mobile subscribers in the country.
