Heavy rains caused cloudbursts in numerous districts of Uttarakhand, killing many people and washing away houses, on Friday 1 July 2016. The death toll due to nonstop rains in Chamoli and Pithoragarh. Following the flashy flood, the water level rise in Nandaprayag area.
Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, said, “NDRF teams rushed to the areas affected by could burst in Uttarakhand. Extra teams of NDRF are also put on alert.”
Rajnath Singh tweeted, “Spoke to CM Uttarakhand Shri Harish Rawat regarding the situation post the cloud burst in the state. Centre is providing all possible support.
Two houses in the Ghat area of Chamoli district were washed away in River Mandakini, while other houses were in danger. Chamoli was the poorest affected as River Alaknanda crossed the danger level mark.
The cloud bursts at Bastadia and Pithoragarh districts in Utrakhand, injured many people.
The Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) was blocked due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand and landslide near Devprayag.
