Indian Hockey legend player Mohammad Shahid passed away on Wednesday, 20 July 2016. He was 56. He was admitted in hospital in Gurgaon. Mohammed Shahid’s death occurred due to multiple organ failure.
Mohammad Shahid’s son told, “He breathed his last at 10:45 this morning. It was multiple organ failure that led to his passing away. He will be taken to Varanasi and last rites will be performed there tomorrow.”
56-yeara-old Hockey Legend Shahid was in Medant hospital in Gurgaon earlier this month as he had jaundice and dengue. Mohd Shahid was airlifted from Varanasi to Gurgaon.
Mohammad Shahid was known for his dribbling skills. He was considered India’s one of greatest Hockey player. He was member of Indian Hockey team that won a gold medal in 1980 Moscow Olympics and hthe captain was V Baskaran.
He was also a part of the national team that won a silver medal at the Delhi Asian Games in 1982 and bronze in the Seoul Asiad in 1986.
Indian Former Cricketer Sourav Ganguly said, “I was a big fan. I used to stay up at nights just to watch Shahid Bhai play.”
