New Civil Aviation Policy 2016 is unveiled on Wednesday, 15 June 2016. The Union Cabinet approved new policy focuses on taking “flying to the masses” and making it “affordable, convenient, cheap”. The Union Government has scrapped the 5/20 norm so now any domestic airlines can fly overseas.
For Domestic airlines to fly overseas, they have to deploy 20 planes or 20 per cent of their total seating capacity for domestic flying. Regional air connectivity scheme is also expected to be operational in the current quarter ending September 2016.
As per the new civil aviation policy, airlines will charge only Rs 2500 for 1 hour flights and they will get tax incentives for operating on unserved routes.
