Ujjain Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2016 Tragedy : 7 People Killed due to Heavy Rain and Storm

Around 7 people were killed and over 100 injured during the tents erected at Simhastha Kumbha Mela in Ujjain late in the afternoon. The tents collapsed due to heavy rains and storm. The district collector Kavindra Kiyawat said that, “Six pilgrims were killed and nearly 80 were injured in thunderstorm at Kumbh Mela site in Ujjain.”

This heavy rains and storms was run for 45 minutes on 5th May 2016, Thursday. Thousands of devotees from across the country have been visiting Ujjain since April 22, when the month-long fair began. On thursday the number of peoples were high because panchkoshi yatra is on.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited injured people on 6th May 2016, Friday. Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that, “The tents that fell apart have to be put back up and we will help with that. Áll those injured in the incident are being treated here, four in Indore. The MP government will bear the cost of their treatment.”
