Congratulations to West Indies Women’s Cricket team for defeating Australia by 8 wickets. West Indies women team took the 2016 ICC World T20 crown on 3rd March 2016, Sunday. WI Men’s Cricket team also won World T20 2016 so there is double celebration for West Indies People.

A world record 120-run opening partnership between Matthews and Taylor set up the chase, which became pretty superficial in the end. West Indies Women’s team won their first World T20 title by defeating 3 times defending champion team Australia. The West Indies captain was named the Player of the Tournament for her 246 runs and eight wickets.

The West Indies women team danced on Champions tune. Both men and women team of West Indies were in celebration mood after winning the World Cup. The women team was present at the stadium when men team was playing against England. The ladies led by half centuries from opener Hayley Matthews and the captain Stafanie Taylor chased down a total of 149 in 19.3 overs.

Damien O’Donohoe, Chief Executive Officer of the HERO Caribbean Premier League (CPL) said that, “I’ve never been to a World Cup final before and to be here in Eden Gardens on the greatest day ever in West Indies cricket, cheering on the women’s and men’s teams, is an amazing feeling and an enormous privilege.”

O’Donohoe said that, “Congratulations are also due to women’s coach Vasbert Frakes, captain Stafanie Taylor and the women’s team who also clinched the title earlier in the day after defeating Australia in another fantastic game.”

Australia won the toss and decided to bat. The team had been going strong, thanks to a 77-run second wicket partnership between Elyse Villani and skipper Meg Lanning. The former was brilliant for his 37-ball 52.
