Uttarakhand Police Horse Shaktiman Passes Away : Injured in BJP Protest

The white police horse was badly injured during a BJP protest in Dehradun led by its Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi. It had grabbed the attention from the nation when its photos were vial with broken leg. Its photos of broken, bleeding leg swamped both papers and the internet in India. 13-year-old Shaktiman passes away now.

When the news of Shaktiman’s death is leaked in social media, the animal lovers are shocked and started pouring in from all parts of the country. Congress leader and former Union minister Milind Deora tweeted, “Will Shaktiman’s murderer be brought to justice?”

Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Shukla stated, “Sad to know that Shaktiman has died. If we human beings can’t protect animal rights, from who will we expect humanity and morality?” AAP leader Ashutosh wrote that, “Shaktiman dead. No words to express my sorrow, pain, anguish. People should not forget or punish those who are responsible for his death.”

Actress Simi Garewal asked for punishment and wrote that, “Punish Ganesh Joshi in the same way he punished the noble #Shaktiman. Let’s see if @AmitShah will mete out justice.” She asked for punishment for BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi, who was leading his party members at the fateful protest.

Columnist Shobhaa De wrote in her Twitter account that, “Please! Let’s give Shaktiman a state funeral. That’s the least we can do for this noble horse, who was assaulted by two-legged beasts.”

When former PM Harish Rawat hearing the news of Shakrtiman’s death, then after few hours he went to pay tributes to Shaktiman. He said,”The way he had been bearing the agonies of being injured, right from day one, caused me to develop a personal attachment to this great soldier.”

“Though the artificial limb was put on Shaktiman, it was not working well and he was putting his entire weight on the another leg. That is why the infection spread. Today also a lot of care was taken and about eight doctors attended to the horse. It is sad that we could not save him,” R S Meena, IG Law and Order, Uttarakhand, said.

Animal rights activist Gauri Maulekhi said, “Shaktiman died the same day when it was attacked and its leg broken. Horses with such weight have very little chance to live on three legs. We were mentally prepared for this but political parties are playing blame games.”
