Gujarat Bandh Under Patel Agitation Gets Few Response : Rally in Mehsana Gets Violent

The Patel Community calls for Gujarat Bandh on 18th April 2016, Monday. There thousands up Patel members came out in the streets in Mehsana on 17th April 2016, Sunday. So Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) has called for a Gujarat Bandh on today. Many Patel members were come out in the streets in Mehsana, Ahmedabad, Surat and Jamnagar. And they were demanding for release of Hardik Patel.

22-year-old Hardik Patel is in jail from past months. Internet Service is suspended in several cities such as Surat, Rajkot, and others. Mehsana Collector Lochan Sehra said that, “Stones were pelted on police vehicles and government offices. They set the SDM vehicle on fire. The protesters were provoking the security forces. Swift action was required to curtail them. Lathicharge and tear gas shells were used.”

The Gujarat Government blocked the internet on Sunday in several sensitive cities of Gujarat. A police notification said the reason for blocking the internet is because during last August’s violent incidents, mass messages were sent via the internet to circulate passions.

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel had made a public appeal for maintain peace. Anandiben Patel said in tweeter that, “Violence has never been, and will not be the solution to any problem. I urge my fellow citizens of Gujarat to maintain peace. Gujarat government has formed a committee of 7 ministers, which is making persistent efforts to resolve the issue amicably.”

About 5000 Patel Protesters clashed with the police in Mehsana. The police used batons and tear-gas and about two dozen protesters were injured. Five policemen were also injured in this clash. Patel leader and Hardik Patel’s associated Lalji Patel said that, “I kept on telling the police that it’s a peaceful rally and I a Patel leader. They still attacked me with batons.”

Gujarat Bandh on Monday but schools and colleges are open. And internet service will blocked till at least Monday evening.
