Mehbooba Mufti is all set to become the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed is the daughter of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who served as former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and died while in office.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominated Mehbooba Mufti as the legislature party leader. Party spokesman and former minister Naeem Akhtar said that “Mehbooba Mufti has been nominated as the chief ministerial candidate of the PDP.”
BJP leader Ravinder Raina told, “I do hope that after this meeting, where Mehbooba Mufti is elected as the party leade’?very soon you will find an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. The Bharatiya Janata Party, both in Jammu and Kashmir and in Centre, was of the opinion that there should be an elected government in Jammu and Kashmir. People have voted us to form the government and it is our democratic, political and constitutional obligation to form the government.”
56 year old Mehbooba Mufti thanked to the party workers for extending their support to her and for backing her during testing times. Jammu and Kashmir placed under the Governor’s rule on 8th January 2016 after the death of Jammu- Kashmir CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death on 7th January 2016.
