US based Amazon has been announced to launched ‘Women Only’ delivery station in India. Amazon is India’s leading online marketplace. Amazon announced on 3rd March 2016. It is a first of its kind Women Only delivery station.
It started with its first delivery station in Thiruvananthapuram. And second it will on Chennai. This Women Only delivery station is completely managed and run by women. Women will deliver the package from both these stations, covering a radius of 2-3 kms from the delivery station.
The director of Amazon India Samuel Thomas said that, “Our vision is to create opportunities for individuals to realize their potential and transform their lives. We are committed to using our resources and infrastructure of innovation and technology to support the women in our country explore and succeed in what was otherwise a very male dominated sector. We are proud to have pioneered the women only delivery station which is a first-of-its-kind India-specific innovation from Amazon and look forward to help women across communities attain financial independence in life.”
The company Amazon is planning to open its third station in Kochi in April. The company trained over 20 women under the project and plans to train two to three more every month. Divya Syam, the head of the delivery station in Thiruvananthapuram said that, “We look for basic qualifications — whether they can ride two-wheelers and read and write English.”
