Wipro has appointed Abidali Neemuchwala as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) from 1 February 2016. Abid Ali Neemuchwala is named as the CEO of India’s third largest software exporter Wipro. Wipro has said in a statement that current CEO TK Kurien will continue to be a member of the board until March 31, 2017 and also will be continue to report Azim Premji.
TCS veteran and the current chief operating officer, Neemuchwala who has also been appointed as a board member will take over his new role on the same day. Abid has effortlessly made into assimilated the culture and ethos of Wipro. As Executive Vice Chairman, TK will enable Abid by leveraging his deep relationships with customers and chart out a new technology roadmap for Wipro.
Kurien became CEO in February, 2011 and now he will be a vice – chairman position. Neemuchwala spent 23 years at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and is the second outsider to head Wipro’s IT business after Vivek Paul. Neemuchwala who was a surprise entry into Wipro as the COO was given the task of streamlining and simplifying the delivery side of the business.
Premji said in an interview,” I wish both TK and Abid every success in their new roles”. I look forward to working with the thousands of Wiproites to take our company to greater heights,” said Neemuchwala in a statement. Over the past five years, Wipro has been transforming into a next generation technology and consulting company with defining differentiators in the marketplace.
The new structure will ensure smooth succession and will build on the solid foundation Wipro have developed to drive superior growth and profitability. There is no doubt that Abid is the right leader to lead Wipro in its next phase of growth.
