Netflix is the world’s largest video streaming service. On 6th January 2016, Wednesday night made its India debut. This service is live now and it offers to Indian consumers three bundles – Basic, Standard and Premium. The service will be free for one month on any bundle you choose.
The announcement to enter India was done by Netflix at CES in Las Vegas. Netflix CEO Reed Hasting said that “Netflix wants to go global by the end of 2016… India, Nigeria, Poland, Singapore, South Korea, Turkey, Indonesia… 130 new countries (by the end of 2016).”
The plans starts from Rs 500 to Rs 800. In the premium plan, there is available Ultra HD content. But it is only available in Premium Plan. The basic bundle doesn’t offer HD quality. It will also limit streaming to only one screen at a time.
Netflix describes itself as “the world’s leading Internet television network with over 69 million members in over 60 countries.” The company started operating as an online firm that provided DVD on rental, has in fact become a pioneering video streaming service.
Netflix’s big advantage is it allows to people to access their favourite TV shows on demand and not at a predetermined time.
In India, Netflix will be available on all screens. It would be require a companion device such as an Xbox 360 for streaming videos on TV. And for other devices including smartphones, tablets and laptops, it would stream directly using the web connection. These 3 bundles in India will give access to same TV show and movies and also give unlimited streaming.
