Jammu-Kashmir CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Passes away on 7th January 2016, Thursday at 9:10 AM. He was 79 years old. On 24 December 2015, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was admitted to the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) hospital in New Delhi. He was admitted for treatment for pneumonia.
He was suffered from neck pain and fever. His condition gradually deteriorated, and he was on ventilator support on wednesday after his condition worsened. But he died few days later on 7th January 2016, Thursday morning. The chief minister breathed his last around 7.30 am, Education Minister and spokesman for Government Nayeem Akhter said.
Sayeed is survived by his wife, three daughters including PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, and a son. The mortal remains of the chief minister would be flown to Srinagar where the body will be kept for people to have the last glimpse of their leader.
Sayeed had hinted on 13th November, that Mehbooba Mufti could become the next chief minister as she was better connected with the people and deserves to be chief minister. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was India’s first Muslim Home Minister.
Mohammad Sayeed will also be remembered for the controversial and much discussed release of some top Kashmiri militants in exchange for his daughter Rubiya Sayeed when he was the home minister. Last year, he said it was the biggest regret of his life and that he would take that to his grave.
