Diana Hayden who won the Femina Miss India contest in 1997 when she was 24 years old. And also went on to win Miss World crown that year. Diana was not to be seen much after doing few films and Bigg Boss Season 2.
On Saturday 9th January, 2016 Former Miss World Diana Hayden delivered a baby girl born out of an egg she froze eight years ago. The 42-year-old Bollywood personality was 32 when she read about egg freezing technology for the first time in 2005.
She got married in 2013 to Collin Dick, who works for a Mumbai-based international NGO. Hayden said while she was in Child Hospital in Santa Cruz, “I froze my eggs for two reasons: I was busy with my career at that time and, more important, I was very clear that I was going to wait to fall in love and marry before having a baby.”
Arya Hayden’s birth proves that egg freezing, deemed technically difficult until a decade ago, works and could liberate Indian women from their great worry: the ticking biological clock. When Diana married American Collin Dick two years ago, she learned she had endometriosis- a condition resulting from the appearance of endometrial tissue outside the womb, making it difficult for women to produce quality eggs.
The couple have named their newborn daughter Arya, and she is perfectly healthy. Normally the average weight and length of a new born in India is 2.6 kgs and 48 cms, but Diana’s daughter weighed 3.7 kgs and was 55 cms at the time of birth.
As per a new study, the process of freezing and thawing could damage eggs and reduce a woman’s chance of becoming a mother. If anything, this is an extremely empowering scientific development for women as they can now exercise autonomy on their bodies through the power to delay motherhood.
