It is for the first time that the government is directly appointing the brand ambassadors. After about a month of rumor, actors Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra have been chosen as the brand ambassadors for the government’s ‘Incredible India’ campaign.
Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra will replace Aamir Khan as the new ambassadors of the Incredible India campaign. Even when actors like Deepika Padukone and Akshay Kumar were being considered as top contenders, ministry chose to Amitabh Bachchan and PeeCee.
Bollywood veteran Mr Bachchan, 73, the brand ambassador of Gujarat Tourism, had been picked for the position some time ago. A formal announcement on the same will be made after Republic Day. Both Bachchan and Chopra haven’t charged a penny for the three-year contract that aims at promoting Tourism in India.
We must say Big and PeeCee are the ideal stars for the authorization. The selection of the two actors follows the Centre’s decision to discontinue the contract of actor Aamir Khan, who had angered the BJP-led government with his remarks on perceived intolerance in the country.
Personalities from multi – layered fields were in the calculation to front the campaign. Amitabh Bachchan was recruited directly by the government, unlike actor Aamir Khan, who was removed days after suggesting that India is experiencing growing religious intolerance.
On Tuesday, 19 January the secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Amitabh Kant, had said that Khan’s remarks on intolerance had damaged the brand identity of the country. But Aamir’s contract with the agency handling the campaign, had terminated and hence his association with the project ended.
Congratulations, Big B and PeeCee!
