Handvo Recipe – How to Make Gujarati Food Dish Handvo

Handvo is a traditional Gujarati spicy cake. The grated bottle gourd imparts the required softness to the handvo – such that it is crisp outside but soft inside. You can also cook the handvo in an oven. Traditionally, Handvo is prepared from rice and daals. Rice and daals are grinded to very fine and then batter is prepared to cook on Tava with vegetables or without vegetable.

Generally Gujarati families eat dry snacks in a winter. But sometimes we choose Muthiya, Fafda, Thepla etc in breakfast for change in our test. So here you must note down the recipes of Gujarati food snack dish ‘Handvo’.

How to Make Gujarati Dish Handvo?:

Ingredients for Handwo:

  • A cup of flour of Handvo
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame
  • Five cloves of garlic
  • 100 grams of chopped potatoes
  • Pease as required
  • Cabbage as required
  • Carrot as required
  • Bottle guard as required
  • Proportionate oil
  • Salt as per taste
  • Coriander
  • Proportionate Masala of handva

There some another ingredients for Handvo’s flour and masala:

  • Two cups of rice
  • A cup of toor dal
  • 1/4 cup channa dal
  • 1/4 cup urad dal
  • A cup of yogurt
  • 4 teaspoon of wheat flour
  • 250 grams bottle guard
  • 2 teaspoon paste of ginger and chilli
  • 2 teaspoon spice of fenugreek
  • 2 teaspoon jiggery (In Gujarati ‘Gol’)
  • A teaspoon chilli
  • A teaspoon turmeric
  • 2 teaspoon pickle puree
  • A pinch of saji’s flower
  • A teaspoon mustard

Procedure for make Handvo:

First of all take 2 cups of mixed lentil and rice in a bowl with flour. Wash this rice and lentil. Then add around 3 teaspoon yogurt. Now to make nice batter add 1/2 cups of water and mix it well.

Then check consistency and add the more water if required. Add all spices and vegetables in flour.

Add 250 grams of chisel bottle guard in this. Add some more yogurt and infuse for 6 hours in winter while in summer take some less yogurt and infuse for 4 hours.

Make sure you keep the batter at warm place otherwise fermentation wouldn’t be perfect. Add warmed 2 tablespoon of oil, water as require, Saji’s flower when we put the handvo.

Now grease cooker with oil and throw this beestings in cooker. Fry with oil, mustard and sesame and spread on beestings. There gas should be fast for for 5 and 10 minutes. Then do it slow.

Handvo will be ready in 3/4 hours. Handvo can be put in non-stick pan too. If the one side would be done then turn it into another side. Handvo can be made in oven and microwave too.

When done serve hot or cold. It taste great anytime.
