Khandheri Stadium Rajkot became the Second stadium in India and first stadium in Gujarat Solar powered. M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is India’s first solar powered stadium. Indian Cricket Captain MS Dhoni inaugurate the solar power plant in the Khandheri stadium.
SCA- Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, situated 15 kms from the Rajkot city on the road to Jamnagar, has installed 50 KWP solar rooftop system which was inaugurated before the start of the third ODI on 18 October 2015 between India and South Africa. SCA has also plans to put up additional capacity in the near future to pioneer green power generation.
The plant of installed now is designed to generate 6833 units per month which makes it 82,000 units annually of solar power, and will be used for captive consumption purpose and monthly saving of electricity bill of around Rs 54,600, SCA said. In terms of saving of carbon emission, it translates to a saving of about 50 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
PV Line Pvt Ltd which is Germany based Solar Company has designed, engineered, supplied and executed the project to make the stadium eco-friendly. India Vs South Africa 3rd ODI Match was played on 18 October 2015 and before starting of match, India’s captain cool has inaugurated the solar power system in the stadium.
Electricity generated due to Solar power system, there will be approx. Rs 54600 cut off in the electricity bill. SCA Chairman Niranjan Shah, Saurashtra Cricket tema captian Jaydev Shah and PV Line Pvt Ltd Chairman were present at the inaugural ceremony. The solar panels are installed on the rooftop of the stadium in Rajkot Gujarat.
