First International Yoga Day is celebrated worldwide on 21st June 2015. In India, there was a national level Yoga Day celebration was held at Rajpath New Delhi. International Yoga Day celebration in India at Rajpath sets 2 new Guinness world Records for the largest number of participants in a yoga lesson at a single venue and for the most number of nationalities in a yoga lesson.

The audience at Rajpath on First International Yoga Day, 21 June 2015, Sunday was 35,985, breaking the previous record of 29,973 people. The second category was the most number of nationalities in a yoga lesson. To achieve this, participants from minimum 50 countries were required to perform and on 21 June 2015, there were participants from 84 countries who performed yoga at Rajpath, New Delhi.
In the evening, the Ministry was awarded two world records by Guinness World Records (GWR) officials at a ceremony at The Ashok. Describing yoga as a journey from “I to We, self to universe”, Modi said on First International Yoga Day. Modi took a break from his exercises to walk among schoolchildren, correcting their postures and he went back among them at the end of the performance.
At New York’s iconic Times Square, some 30,000 fanatics in colourful dresses performed yoga. The event was observed by thousands in over a dozen cities in China as well.
