Forbes recognizes 50 powerful businesswomen in Asia who are driving change across diverse industries in its fourth annual Asia’s Power Businesswomen list. The Forbes Asia list includes six Indian women in Forbes Asia 50 Power Businesswomen 2015 list.

6 Indians in Forbes Asia 50 Power Businesswomen 2015 :

Arundhati Bhattacharya, CMD, State Bank of India

Chanda Kochhar = CEO, ICICI Bank

Akhila Srinivasan = MD/Non-Executive Director, Shriram Life Insurance/Shriram Capital

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw = Founder, Chairman and MD, Biocon

Shikha Sharma = CEO and MD, Axis Bank

Usha Sangwan = MD, Life Insurance Corp. of India

Isha Ambani, daughter of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Piramal, daughter of VIP Industries Chairman Dilip Piramal, have been named by Forbes magazine among its 12 “power businesswomen” from Asia this year.

Isha is a director at Reliance Jio Infocomm and Reliance Retail Ventures, while Piramal is the managing director (MD) of VIP Industries.

Arundhati Bhattacharya is the first woman to lead an India based Fortune 500 company. Initially she joined SBI bank as probationary officer at the age of 22 year. Arundhati joined State Bank of India in 1977 as a probationary officer (PO). She has held several positions during her 36-year career with the bank including working in foreign exchange, treasury, retail operations, human resources and investment banking.

Chanda Kochhar is the managing director (MD) of ICICI Bank and its chief executive officer (CEO). ICICI Bank is India’s largest private bank and overall second largest bank in the country. She also heads the Corporate Centre of ICICI Bank.

In 1984, Chanda Kochhar joined the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Ltd. (ICICI)

Akhila Srinivasan is the Managing Director of Shriram Investments Limited. She is also associated with several social welfare activities and initiatives. She is the recipient of Outstanding Women Professional Award (200-01) instituted by the FICCI.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw :

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is an Indian entrepreneur. She is the chairman and managing director of Biocon Limited, a biotechnology company based in Bangalore (Bengaluru), India and the current chairperson of IIM-Bangalore.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw led Biocon’s evolution from an industrial enzymes manufacturing company to a fully integrated bio-pharmaceutical company with a well-balanced business portfolio of products and a research focus on diabetes, oncology and auto-immune diseases. She also established two subsidiaries: Syngene which provides early research and development support services on a contract basis and Clinigene which focuses on clinical research trials and the development of both generic and new medicines.

Shikha Sharma is the Managing Director & CEO of Axis Bank Set up in 1994, Axis Bank is India’s third largest Bank in the private sector in terms of total assets and 4th largest Bank in the country in terms of market capitalization. Shikha is the Chairperson of Axis Asset Management Company Limited.

Usha Sangwan :

Usha Sangwan is a Managing Director at Life Insurance Corporation of India, India’s biggest life insurance company. This is the second highest position after Chairman. She is the first woman to reach this position.

Earlier she has also handled LIC Housing Finance which is a subsidiary of LIC. She played an important role in turnaround of this company by raising $29.85 million through global depository receipts in 2004. She segregated marketing and underwriting divisions and introduced risk-based pricing. She is one of the director of Axis Bank

Women from a total of 16 Asian nations were represented on the list, which was released on February 25. Individuals from China and Hong Kong dominate with 14 candidates chosen, which includes Alibaba’s top female decision-makers Maggie Wu and Lucy Peng.

India slots into second place with its six honorees in the Forbes Asia 2015 magazine issue.
